JPd recognised as best business consultancy

Dubai Lynx honours MBC Group Chairman

The Dubai Lynx International Festival of Creativity has honoured MBC Group Chairman, Sheikh Waleed Al-Ibrahim with its Advertising Person of the Year award, to recognise his achievements in advancing the reputation and profile of the communications industry in the MENA region. Sheikh Waleed has been responsible for launching a series of successful TV channels which communicate to different audiences in the MENA region such as MBC1, MBC2, MBC MAX, Wanasah and MBC Drama. He has also recently been instrumental in rolling out HD channels that cover the worlds of movies, sports and entertainment as well as being one of the first Arab businessmen to launch a news channel – Al Arabiya, which has extended into a global network of correspondents and reporters with nearly 30 offices and Bureau Chiefs around the world. He was presented with the Advertising Person of the Year trophy during the Dubai Lynx Awards Ceremony last night, which was attended by 1,800 people from the MENA region’s creative communications industry.

GNTECH.ae wins Gold for Best New Product

GNTECH.ae, GN Publishing’s new technology website, has been named the Gold winner of Best New Product at the 1st WAN-IFRA Middle East Digital Media Awards held last night in Dubai. WAN-IFRA, The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, is a global network of 3,000 news publishing companies and represents over 18,000 publications in 120 countries. The Digital Media Awards, which first launched in Asia 2010, now take place in five regions, are judged by a group of global industry peers. Gold winners of the award are automatically entered into the World Digital Media Awards to take place in Vienna in October 2016.

Omnicom wins at Sustainability Reporting Awards

Omnicom Media Group MENA has received the Best First Time Sustainability Report award for its inaugural report at the recently held Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards. The document, entitled Leaving a Mark, not a Footprint, was produced by the communications holding group in accordance with the GRI G4 Guidelines and was deemed the best introductory report to be produced by an organisation in Asia last year.

Held in Singapore and organised by CSRWorks International, the awards ceremony recognised organisations for excellence in reporting their sustainability initiatives. A gala dinner event was attended by dignitaries from companies, non-profit organisations, embassies, trade associations, advocacy organisations and academic institutions and was presided by the British High Commissioner to Singapore, H.E. Scott Wightman.

Cannes Lions to honour Marcello Serpa

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity will honour Marcello Serpa with the Lion of St. Mark at this year’s festival. Recognised as one of the most awarded art directors in Brazil, having won over 160 Lions, his work has included the 1993 campaign for Guarana and the 2010 print campaign for Billboard;‘Britney’, ‘Eminem’, ‘Marilyn’, ‘Bono’ and ‘Amy’. Marcello will be presented with the Lion of St. Mark during the ceremony on Saturday June 25, 2016.

“The Lion of St. Mark recognises individuals who have made significant and outstanding contributions to creativity across our industry,” says Philip Thomas, CEO, Cannes Lions. “Marcello’s achievements are known the world over, but perhaps most notably he was responsible for taking home Latin America’s first Grand Prix in 1993. He’s since served on juries four times, twice as President and during his tenure, AlmapBBDO won Agency of the Year three times.”

Marcello adds “My life and career would be completely different, and probably a bit boring if Cannes Lions did not exist. Those small stairs to the stage are connected to me and I have always watched with envy and admiration some creative legends stand at the top of them. Emirates NBD named Advertiser of the Year

The Dubai Lynx International Festival of Creativity will honour Emirates NBD as Advertiser of the Year at the 10th edition of Dubai Lynx in March 2016. Having received 15 trophies over the last three years at Dubai Lynx, Emirates NBD is the first bank in the last ten years to be named Advertiser of the year and received a Grand Prix at the Dubai Lynx 2015 with the ‘Hey Future Me…’ campaign created by FP7/DXB for Children’s Savings Plans.

“Every year as organisers we choose the brand that has truly stood out as being creatively brave and willing to take risks,” says Terry Savage, Chairman, Lions Festivals. “Dubai Lynx believes that the more creative a business, the better return they will see, and we are delighted to honour Emirates NBD with this in 2016.”

Effie MENA Awards winners announced

The seventh edition of the annual Effie MENA Awards hosted a total of 25 categories for entrants this year. There were 12 categories under ‘Product and Service,’ eight under ‘Specialty’ and a single category ‘Shopper Marketing.’ There was also a chance to win a ‘Grand Prix’ award and to have the titles ‘The Most Effective Marketing Team of the Year,’ ‘Most Effective MENA Agency Network of the Year’ and ‘Most Effective MENA Advertising Agency Office of the Year’, ‘Most Effective MENA Media Agency Office of the Year’ bestowed. To win an Effie Award, entrants need to impress the judges in four main criteria; ‘Strategic Challenge and Objectives,’ ‘Idea,’ ‘Bringing the Idea to Life’ and ‘Results.’

This year’s Grand Prix winner was Impact BBDO Cairo and OMD – Media Direction for the Sting Launch Campaign. Advertising agency FP7 received a double win and was awarded most effective agency office of the year and most effective agency network of the year. OMD Dubai won the title of most effective media office of the year.

Nashwa Al Ruwaini named in Forbes Middle East

Nashwa Al Ruwaini, CEO of Pyramedia Production Company, has been named on Forbes Middle East magazine’s list of Most Powerful Arab Women 2015. As 23rd on the list of 200, Nashwa is the first figure from the media industry to be included.The award was presented as part of a ceremony held at the Oberoi, Dubai, to recognise the achievements of women in business and government. Other women recognised include Mona Almoayyed, Managing Director of YK Almoayyed & Sons, Bahrain; Amna BinHendi, Deputy Chair, BinHendi Group UAE and Shaikha Al Maskari, Chair, Al Maskari Holdings, UAE.

Memac Ogilvy Dubai wins Gold

Memac Oglivy Dubai has won Gold at Cannes Lion for the project Geometry Global, The Lucky Iron Fish, in the PR category. The Lucky Iron Fish is an innovative campaign about one little fish that makes a difference in the world by addressing the issue of high anemia levels throughout the globe.

People who use the smiling iron fish, which provides 75% of an adult’s daily recommended intake of iron, in their cooking saw a massive decrease in the levels of iron deficiency. The campaign, which attracted over 2.6 million impressions, struck a nerve with the public who spread the message of how a small iron fish is saving lives in Cambodia and around the world. The Cannes jury awarded The Lucky Iron Fish project a Gold Lion in the PR Category.

Shane Mcginley wins Journalistic Excellence Award

Shane McGinley, Executive Editor, Arabian Business has been selected as one of 22 global recipients of the Citi Journalistic Excellence Award, 2015. This is the first time journalists from the Middle East have competed for the award, and Shane represented the UAE along with Triska Hamid, a London-based freelancer who contributes to Abu Dhabi-based Newspaper, The National. The Citi Journalistic Excellent Award is sponsored by Citigroup, and judged by a professional jury of experts in finance, economics and business journalism. Each recipient of the award was chosen from hundreds of international journalists, invited to apply and partake in a competition and selection process, with those who were successful being invited to attend the International Journalists Seminar at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

“It was an amazing experience to be able to attend the Columbia University campus, even just for 10 days,” says Shane. “With journalists from all over the world, it was great to hear their stories and experiences as well as the different challenges journalists face each day.”
