Alshaya welcomes PR and Social Media Executive

Katie Weir has joined global retail franchise operator Alshaya as PR and Social Media Executive, American Eagle, Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Having worked in PR and Marketing for over six years, Katie was most recently PR and Marketing Manager for Tutti Rouge, UK.

As PR and Social Media Executive for American Eagle, MENA, Katie will be based in Kuwait and handling press release distribution, media relations, product/image call ins and social media strategy for the American Eagle brand across the region.

Noura Al Kaabi joins LinkedIn’s Global Influencers

Noura Al Kaabi, CEO of twofour54, is the first woman from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to be selected for LinkedIn’s Global Influencer Programme, a platform for leaders in their respective geographies and industries to share their insights and discuss topics of interest on the social network aimed at professionals.

Approximately 500 personalities hold the LinkedIn Influencer badge globally, including: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President Barack Obama, Bill Gates and Arianna Huffington.

Susan Parker joins Eaton

Power management company Eaton has appointed Susan Parker to the position of Marketing Communications Director, Middle East, Electrical Sector – EMEA. Susan previously worked as Group Director of the Technology Practice for Weber Shandwick in Dubai, and she brings 10 years of experience in journalism and public relations to her new role.

As Marketing Communications Director, Middle East, Electrical Sector – EMEA, Susan will be located in Eaton’s facility in Jebel Ali, where she will be responsible for leading the development of the marketing communications strategy for the electrical sector’s Middle Eastern operations. She will also work with the Middle East leadership team and EMEA Central Marketing Communications team to strategically plan, facilitate and manage marketing communications programs that support the business’ objectives.

“Susan joining our team shows our intention to build on the developments we have made in all areas of our business in recent years,” says Frank Ackland, General Manager – Middle East, Eaton. “Her knowledge of the media sector in the region and experience in our core markets will enable her to hit the ground running.”

IPA launches Foundation Certificate in MENA region

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) is launching its IPA Foundation Certificate across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region this week. The launch is being supported by a press campaign from Dubai’s Impact BBDO.

The IPA’s Foundation Certificate is an internationally recognised qualification that arms delegates with less than two years experience the knowledge to perform their roles. The content has been tailored specifically for the MENA region and involves approximately 30 hours of online learning, it will culminate with a formal exam taking place on November 12 in Dubai.

“As Dubai and the wider MENA advertising industry continue to grow as one of the leading global advertising hubs, there is an increasing need to attract and retain the best talent and ensure that they are armed with the skills to deliver stronger client relationships, better work and more profitable business,” says Michael Burns, Head of Export, IPA. “Through our research in the UK we have proof that investing in IPA qualifications helps agencies grow faster, have greater levels of income growth, have higher staff and client retention rates, and see more substantial revenue increases than their counterparts.”

Gulf Life gets a makeover

Gulf Life, the inflight magazine for Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air, has received a new look. The redesign is the culmination of a comprehensive review of the magazine’s content, style and tone to better service its audience – whether 35,000 feet in the air, or in an airport lounge.

In addition to an updated logo and cover, the August 2015 issue of Gulf Life is also the first issue to be available as a digital edition via the issuu platform, which readers globally can download free of charge on any mobile device, tablet or desktop.

“We wanted something that reflected the expanding network of Gulf Air and its well-travelled passengers,” says Mairead Walsh, Editor, Gulf Life. “The new look is energetic and aspirational. We expect our new online presence will only increase our readership and awareness of the Gulf Air network.”

Young & Rubicam welcome new Account Manager

Global marketing and communications company Young & Rubicam has welcomed Jad Fares to the role of Account Manager. With two years of experience in media, Jad previously worked as an Account Executive at MadCom, in Dubai. In his new role, Jad will be utilising his knowledge of shopper marketing and brand activations as a part of the Young & Rubicam Labstore team, where he will be researching shopper mindsets in order to come up with creative concepts to attract and engage target markets.

“I joined Young & Rubicam Labstore because I fell in love with the brands from a consumer’s perspective, so it’s amazing to work on them in the capacity of a shopper marketing specialist,” says Jad. “Each of the brands are well-known and admired and I just can’t wait to dive in.”
