Jennifer Gibson goes freelance

Jennifer Gibson, former Editor of good magazine, part of Motivate Publishing has gone freelance. Having joined Motivate in 2016, Jennifer has over 15 years of experience in journalism and has worked on as well as contributed to a number of titles including VIVA, Hello! Middle East, What’s On Dubai, Emirates Man, Emirates Woman, Jumeirah, The National, The Telegraph and Gulf News. She also worked in broadcasting as News Presenter and Commentator on Dubai 92 as well as Dubai Eye. Following her relocation to the UK, she will continue to work across publications in the UAE and UK as a freelance Editor.

“It has been an honour to edit good magazine since August 2016, to work with an incredible team of brilliant people and to meet so many of the innovators, entrepreneurs, environmental activists and charity campaigners who are doing so much to take community life here in Dubai forward,” says Jennifer. “The time has come for us to make a move to be closer to our families, but I look forward to continuing to work with so many of the brilliant editors and journalists I’ve met during my time here – and to the opportunities my continuing work here will allow for lots of visits to escape the Scottish weather!”

Motivate Publishing appoints new Publishing Director

Motivate Publishing has appointed Carlos Pedroza Luna to the role of Publishing Director of its luxury media division starting September 2017. With 18 years of experience in consumer magazines, custom publishing and sales strategies, Carlos previously worked in Mexico as Publishing Director at Editorial Televista in partnership with media company, Hearst, where he worked across several titles including, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar and Men’s Health. He most recently worked with Groupo Tourbillon also as Publishing Director in Mexico, where he oversaw the development of Tiempo de Relojes and Gentleman magazines. In his new role, he will oversee the development of Motivate’s luxury brands including Emirates Woman, Emirates Man and Jumeirah Magazine as well as new projects to be launched within the sector.

“I’m thrilled with this great opportunity to be part of the Motivate’s team managing its luxury portfolio,” says Carlos. “Being part of Emirates Woman, Emirates Man and Jumeirah Magazine, some of the most recognised titles in the region, it’s an honour. I strongly believe that I will work with a very experienced and professional team and together we will develop new ideas and possibilities to enrich Motivate’s portfolio.”

Alexandria Gouveia joins Vogue Arabia

Vogue Arabia has appointed Alexandria Gouveia to the role of Managing Editor. With over 13 years of experience in print and digital media across the UK and UAE, Alexandria previously worked with Emirates Woman, part of Motivate Publishing and most recently with Stylist Arabia, part of APP Media Group. In her new role, she will join Vogue Arabia’s editorial team and work across the magazine’s editorial content as well as help build the brand in the region.

“I’m extremely excited about the prospect of working on the most famous brand in the world, alongside a team that contains some of the most talented journalists and stylists in the Middle East,” says Alexandria.

Alexandra Venison joins Vogue Arabia

Following the appointment of Manuel Arnaut as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Arabia, the title has welcomed Alexandra Venison to the editorial team as Beauty Editor. Having worked across fashion and beauty titles including Emirates Woman at Motivate Publishing and VIVA and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia at ITP Media Group, Alexandra will head up all beauty content in her new role.

Lottie Communications launches in the UAE

PR professional Scarlett Sykes has launched new communications consultancy, Lottie Communications, in the UAE. With over ten years of experience in publishing, e-commerce, marketing, PR and digital communications, Scarlett previously worked with The Grooming Company as PR and Marketing Executive in-house, as Fashion and Beauty Writer at Emirates Woman and Hello! magazines, and most recently with COPIA Group as Director, where she worked across international and regional brands as well as concepts. The new Dubai-based agency will offer services that include campaign and concept development, media relations, strategic partnerships, digital communication management, copywriting and content creation to clients across the UAE.

“Giving up your job to go out alone is a very daunting thought, but I have had so much support since I made the decision and following the launch announcement, it has made the leap much easier,” says Scarlett. “I am very excited to see what the future holds.”

Farooq Salik goes freelance

Farooq Salik, former Senior Photographer and Studio Manager at Motivate Publishing has gone freelance. Having joined Motivate Publishing in 2005, Farooq has over 15 years of experience and has worked across a number of consumer and customer publications including Hello!, Emirates Woman, What’s On, Golf Digest, Emirates Man, Dubai Voyager, good, Gulf Business and Campaign. He will continue to work as a professional photographer for studio, on location and for events as well as offer creative social media content and services.

“I had a fantastic time working at Motivate, but I felt like the time was right to move on and make use of the experience I gained from working for a period of over 11 years at Motivate,” says Farooq. “I’m really excited about taking this next step and seeing what challenges lie ahead. I want to establish a reliable and efficient image and work as a social media content provider in the market which I feel is very rare here in Dubai.”

John Marsland goes freelance

John Marsland, former Art Director at Motivate Publishing has gone freelance. John brings with him 11 years of experience and has worked in the UK as a Product Photographer and in Dubai with ITP Media Group and BNC publishing before joining Motivate, where he worked on illustrating content and photography as well as across consumer and customer publications including Emirates Woman, What’s On, Emirates Man, Dubai Voyager, Good Magazine, Cyclist Middle East and Campaign. He will continue to work as a published illustrator and on photography for both in studio and on location as well as offer branding and graphic design services.

“While I had a fantastic time working at Motivate, I felt like the time was right to broaden my creative horizons,” says John. “I’m really excited about taking this next step and seeing what challenges lie ahead.”

Emirates Woman welcomes new Deputy Editor

UAE-based glossy Emirates Woman, part of Motivate Publishing, has appointed Nina Catt to the role of Deputy Editor. With over ten years of experience in the media industry, Nina was previously based in Australia, where she worked across a number of magazines including, donna hay, that’s life! and InStyle Australia. In her new role, she will work across the Emirates Woman group portfolio including Emirates Woman, Emirates Bride and Emirates Woman Mini plus contract publishing titles Jumeirah and SOUK.

Emirates Woman welcomes Rachel Bassett

Falling under the umbrella of Motivate Publishing, women’s lifestyle and fashion title, Emirates Woman has appointed Rachel Bassett to the role of Stylist and Writer. Previously a Fashion Stylist and Writer at The Daily Express, London, Rachel will now oversee and contribute to all fashion and beauty features as well as photoshoots for the digital and print publication.

“I’m thrilled to join the fabulous Emirates Woman team in continuing to produce exceptional editorial for the region to enjoy,” says Rachel.

Louis Vuitton Middle East makes new appointment

Louis Vuitton Middle East has appointed Negar Ghodstinat to the role of Communications Director starting January 2017. With over 13 years of experience, Negar previously worked at MTV Networks International as Account Director and most recently at Motivate Publishing as Group Publisher for luxury and lifestyle working across several luxury titles including Emirates Woman and Jumeirah Magazine. In her new role she will oversee the PR, advertising, digital and corporate events division of the company.
