PRCA launches mentoring scheme

Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) has collaborated with PRWeek to launch a new mentoring scheme in the UAE and UK. Aiming to inspire the next generation of PR and communication leaders, the Fast Track mentoring scheme will launch with an initial 21 mentors including Yiannis Vafeas, Managing Director at Golin MENA and Alex Malouf, Corporate Communications Manager for the Arabian Peninsula at Procter & Gamble.

“We are very proud to launch the latest stage in the Fast Track mentoring scheme, aimed at inspiring mentees to go even further with their careers,” says Francis Ingham, Director General, PRCA. “Mentoring is a fantastic way of passing on the expertise and knowledge held within the industry to a new generation of hopefuls.”

Connector shifts ownership

Dubai-based media professionals, Chris Nicolaides and Sam Patel have secured the ownership of Connector Advertising DMCC. Previously owned by Lynda Poncia, the media house publishes UAE’s lifestyle and leisure title, Connector as well as a monthly city guide, Discover Dubai. With the acquisition of Connector Advertising, Chris and Sam will leave their current positions as Commercial Director at Turrett Media and dmg events Middle East, Asia & Africa respectively.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed growing the Connector brand over the years,” says Lynda Poncia. “However it is now time for me to move on, and I look forward to seeing the company and the magazines continue the great relationship they have with the many readers and clients under the leadership of Chris and Sam. I am sure they will enjoy continued success and I wish them all the best for the future.”

Several promotions at PHD

The Middle East offices of media and communications agency, PHD, part of Omnicom Media Group, has announced several internal promotions to accommodate their goals of regional expansion and new service offerings.

Hassan Shoker, previously the head of investments for PHD UAE, will now oversee all markets under PHD MENA, including Egypt, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Ian Dolan has been appointed as the Head of Strategy and Content and will be responsible for the network’s social media and digital solutions. Sandra Essa and Stephanie Medlege have both been promoted to the role of Associate Director – Planning. In their new role, Sandra and Stephanie will further contribute to strategic planning and execution for their client’s success.

DIFF announces official fashion partner

Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, part of ITP Publishing Group, has partnered with Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) as the festival’s official fashion partner. Located in Madinat Jumeirah, the ‘Bazaar Best Dressed Studio’ will invite the most stylish attendees of DIFF 2016 to be photographed for a dedicated online gallery and an exclusive supplement that will be included in the magazine’s January 2017 issue. Taking place from December 7-14, highlights of the festival and partnership will be shared across the publication’s social media platforms and will feature in an online film showcasing the week’s most stylish moments.

#GNTECH welcomes new Deputy Editor

Online and print technology title #GNTECH, part of GN Media, has appointed Daanesh Kalyaniwalla to the role of Deputy Editor. Previously a freelance writer for the technology blog and monthly supplement, Daanesh will now be responsible for editorial content creation and production as well as their social media accounts.

Sarah Williams joins La Femme

La Femme has welcomed Sarah Williams to the role of Deputy Editor. With over seven years of experience, Sarah has previously worked with publications including; Hotelier, Caterer Middle East and, most recently, Bloomberg Businessweek. In her new role, she will be working on leading content creation, writing and editorial direction for the magazine, with the aim of creating features that show what fashion can achieve.

“I chose to join La Femme because I love the work ethic and attitude of Cindy Bailey, Pinpoint Media Group’s Group Editor, as well as the magazine’s aesthetic – there isn’t anything as high fashion and beautifully produced in the GCC as La Femme,” says Sarah. “I’m looking forward to the creative freedom of the role and bringing my Los Angeles experience to a Dubai magazine.”

Nominations open for Leaders in Food & Beverages Awards

Catering News Middle East has opened nominations for the inaugural Leaders in Food & Beverages Awards. The awards will celebrate excellence and innovation in the region’s food and beverage industry across 18 categories, including nine for restaurants and nine for individuals. Winners will be announced at a ceremony which will take place on November 9, 2016 at the Westin Mina Seyahi, Dubai and will be sponsored by prominent suppliers on the market including; Horeca Trade, Ronai and Pulsar.
