Geordiebird to leave Dubai 92 breakfast show

Following nine years as a co-presenter on the Catboy and Geordiebird Breakfast show, Geordiebird, known off-air as Stef Burgon, announces that she will broadcast her last breakfast show this Thursday. Stef is also known for her regular ‘Girl About Town’ feature in What’s On magazine, and has been in Ahlan’s Hot 100 list every year since moving to the UAE in 2006.

Stef’s new role will be with Dubai Eye 103.8, sister network to Dubai 92, where she will be co-presenting The Travel Show (The Ticket), with Mark Lloyd every weekday from 2pm – 4pm.

“I’m looking forward to not having to get up so early, after doing this for the last nine years,” says Stef. “I can’t wait for this amazing new challenge on The Ticket with Mark Lloyd on Dubai Eye 103.8!”

DPQ welcomes new Junior Account Manager

DPQ Communications has appointed Zoya Pasha as Junior Account Manager. Previously at Memac Ogilvy for three years working on an array of consumer brands,  Zoya has over five years of regional experience working across a number of consumer lifestyle, F&B and fashion brands.

“I’m really happy to be joining the DPQ Communications team, and to be working with such an exciting portfolio of clients,” says Zoya. “I’m very familiar with DPQ’s work and am excited to be joining its growing team.”

Brazen expands UAE team

PR and content marketing agency Brazen, based in Dubai Media City, has expanded its team with the official appointment of Account Executive, Georgina Scott.

Coming from a background in music events and fashion marketing, Georgina has lived between London and Dubai for six years and has worked with local venues such as Fibber Magees and The Irish Village, as well as luxury brands including Reiss, Hugo Boss and Chelsea-based designer, Maria Grachvogel. She will now be reporting directly to Managing Director Louise Jacobson in the running of clients for Brazen.

“Brazen has had an incredible two months since our launch in January, and we are really excited to have Georgina on board,” says Louise. “Her network of contacts and strong digital and social skills will be a valuable asset in achieving the very best content for our clients.”

Grazia welcomes new Fashion & Beauty Editor

Sophie Bew has joined Grazia Middle East as Fashion and Beauty Editor. Joining the team from London where she has spent the last year and eight months as Senior Fashion Assistant for the UK edition of Grazia, Sophie brings more than four years of experience contributing to some of the UK’s most widely distributed glossy magazines such as Marie Claire and Harper’s Bazaar. A self-confessed beauty addict, Sophie will now apply her extensive experience in both writing and styling to her new role at Grazia Middle East.

Changes to the Motivate team

Changes have been made to the Motivate team in the form of a new joiner and in-house promotion. Craig Wagstaff has been appointed as Group Sales Director, joining the team from Astro Malaysia Holdings where he was Vice President and Group General Manager of Sales for eight years. Having worked across a range of media, Craig will bring his international experience to the running of the day-to-day sales activity of Motivate’s magazine division.

Anthony Milne, previous General Manager of Group Sales and Marketing at Motivate, has now been appointed Chief Commercial Officer. In his new role, Anthony will focus on key areas of strategic development for Motivate while retaining responsibility for the Marketing and Events functions.

Edelman welcomes new Executive Vice Chairman

Edelman has appointed Carol Potter as Executive Vice Chairman, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APACMEA) from August 1, 2015. She joins the team from Shanghai, where she was President and CEO of BBDO China.

Carol is recognised and well-respected in global advertising, arriving in Shanghai as CEO of BBDO China in 2006, having previously worked as Global Business Director at J.Walter Thompson in London.  Starting her career at Satchi & Satchi, working in Sydney, New York, Tokyo and London, marketing and advertising across various high profile brands and fortune 500 companies.

In her new role, Carol will be based in Dubai supporting David Brain, President and CEO, APACMEA. She will be tasked particularly in helping to develop Edelman’s brand offer, which encompasses social, digital, experiential, PR, analytics and research for clients throughout the region.

“Carol represents the gold standard of advertising and planning, and will bring with her the science and rigour of marketing to accelerate our evolution into becoming the region’s first communications marketing agency,” says David. ‘”She is a leading brands thinker and will elevate our research, creative and content offerings across the region for the benefit of our clients.”

Architectural Digest appoints Editor-in-Chief

Manuel Arnaut has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of soon to be launched Architectural Digest Middle East. Joining the team from Portugal with a number of high profile publications under his belt, Manuel previously spent seven years as a journalist for Vogue Portugal and most recently held the position of Editor at GQ Portugal. He will now oversee the launch and running of Arab Publishing Partners’ (APP) hotly anticipated new title.

Published under licence agreement with APP, Architectural Digest Middle East is set to hit the stands in April 2015, marking the tenth  global edition of the magazine.

Gina Tadros joins ITP Publishing

Gina Tadros has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of soon to be launched Hello! Arabia. Newly acquired by Arab Publishing Partners, part of ITP Publishing Group, Gina joins the Hello! team from Media Quest where she was Editor-in-Chief across the Marie Claire Arabia and Marie Claire Lower Gulf titles since 2012. Having worked on the Marie Claire publication since 2009, Gina boasts extensive editorial experience with lifestyle publications and will now head up the newest title in the Hello! brand, which is set to hit shelves May 1, 2015.

Bell Pottinger Middle East welcomes Tim Falconer

Bell Pottinger’s Middle East practice has hired experienced journalist and Editor Tim Falconer as Associate Partner. Tim joins the international PR agency from the Wall Street Journal office in Dubai, where he was serving as Deputy Bureau Chief, managing a team of 12 reporters throughout the MENA region.

A global financial and commodities journalist with over 16 years’ experience, Tim previously managed the European Equity Markets team in London for Dow Jones Newswires. Before this, he ran the Energy Markets team for the Wall Street Journal, which included covering and attending OPEC meetings and writing on major oil firms like BP, Royal Dutch Shell and Total.

In his new role, Tim will be based in Bell Pottinger’s office in Dubai Media City, supporting clients across the region including those serviced by the agency’s offices in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain; he will also focus on helping to build Bell Pottinger’s financial communications offering across the region.

Grazia Middle East welcomes new Assistant Editor

Shitika Anand has been appointed as the Assistant Editor for Grazia Middle East. A freelance journalist with extensive experience across the fashion, beauty and lifestyle industry, Shitika has been published in Forbes Travel, The Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, Instyle, CNN International and Women’s Health magazine, to name but a few.

Prior to joining the ITP Publishing team, Shitika was based in London where she held the positions of Fashion Assistant for SHOP magazine as well as Editorial Freelancer at Women’s Wear Daily, additionally managing the role of remote Managing Editor and Social Media Manager for Australia-based online platform AmeliaPhillips.com.au. Shitika’s expansive knowledge will now be applied to her new position with the weekly lifestyle publication, led by Editor-in-Chief Alison Tay.
