Ahmed Garoon joins Hype as Senior Sales Executive

Ahmed Garoon has joined music and nightlife magazine Hype as Senior Sales Executive. Working alongside Lee Tunnicliffe, Ahmed will be responsible for generating new business across clubs, music, fashion and lifestyle clients, and also seeking sponsorship for Hype events.

“Hype is a the only magazine in Dubai that captures the city’s exciting sub-culture, as far as I’m concerned, and I’m looking forward to connecting new brands with the magazine,” says Ahmed. “I’ve been a fan of the magazine since its inception and joining the team brings me nothing but joy. The Hype team is extremely passionate about what they do and it’s great to be working with like-minded individuals who live and breathe their work as a lifestyle.”

Motivate Publishing welcomes David Armstrong

David Armstrong has joined Motivate Publishing as Head of Digital. With over 15 years of experience in the media industry, David most recently worked as Project Manager for the Dubai offices of Avid Technology where he was responsible for the management of project staff as well as programming for TVNZ.

In his new role, David will be responsible for overseeing the entirety of Motivate’s digital portfolio including digital editions, email marketing and websites. He will be supporting all creative initiatives from advertisers in the digital space and ensuring that the publishing house’s interactive presence is continuously refreshed and updated.

Motivate Publishing to launch Cyclist ME

Cyclist Middle East is set to launch in September 2015. Cyclist Middle East will be published by Motivate Publishing under license from Dennis Publishing. The international cycling title first launched in the UK in 2012, and this will be the third license deal just in 2015.

The 116-page monthly magazine will be available from September 1, 2015 and will cost AED25. The title will feature content that focuses on the best road bikes and technology, performance advice from top experts and in-depth articles mixed with breathtaking imagery from the sport’s best photographers. With the growing enthusiasm of the sport in the Middle East, which currently hosts four major cycling races: the Dubai Tour, the Abu Dhabi Tour, the Tour of Qatar and the Tour of Oman, Cyclist Middle East already has a growing audience.

Laura Coughlin promoted to Deputy Editor

Laura Coughlin has been appointed as the new Deputy Editor for both What’s On magazine and the digital version, WhatsOn.ae. Having joined Motivate Publishing 12 months ago, Laura previously worked across both titles as Features Writer.

In her new role, Laura will work alongside the title’s senior editors, designers and writers to create engaging and brilliant content covering subjects that range from music to restaurant reviews and adventure to new activities in UAE. Laura will also focus on making WhatsOn.ae the number one go-to online portal for breaking news, upcoming events, and the latest in food and fitness in the UAE.

Time Out welcomes Matt Fortune

Matt Fortune has joined Time Out – part of ITP Publishing Group – as Head of Digital Content, bringing eight years of experience in journalism with him to his new role. Matt most recently worked at Motivate Publishing as Web Editor for What’s On magazinewhere he was responsible for overseeing all of What’s On’s digital content. In his new role, Matt will be responsible for overseeing content for all of Time Out’s digital platforms across the Middle East.

Mark Pickup joins Shortlist as Commercial Director

Mark Pickup has been appointed Commercial Director of Shortlist Dubai and Shortlist Abu Dhabi across both print and digital, effective June 1, 2015. Previously Head of Sales for What’s On and Hype at Motivate Publishing, Mark brings years of experience including a three year stint as Group Head of the Ahlan! Division at ITP.

“I am very excited to be joining the Shortlist team,” says Mark. “I am very familiar with the Shortlist title and as I have worked in the hospitality sector of media for the past seven years, I strongly feel Dubai is ready for a fresh entertainment product that also has a strong fashion element. Motivate Publishing welcomes Dean Carroll

Motivate Publishing has appointed Dean Carroll as Group Editor of the Business division of titles. Dean has worked as a senior journalist across print and digital media for 15 years, before spending 12 months working in marketing and communications for the technology firm Centralway, in Switzerland. His editor’s blog for PublicServiceEurope.com was recognised by the Reporting Europe Prize, and he has had academic work published in a number of noted journals. In his new role, Dean will oversee titles including Gulf BusinessThe Week, Campaign Middle East and Business Traveller Middle East.

Motivate promotes Kerry McDermott

Motivate Publishing has promoted Kerry McDermott to Deputy Editor of the Emirates Woman Group. Having previously worked as Features Editor for What’s On and Good magazines, Kerry has experience covering everything from nightlife and restaurant reviews at What’s On, to food, lifestyle advice and interiors at Good. She has also contributed to Jumeirah Magazine.

In her new role, Kerry will oversee features content including interviews, as well as all things health and travel related. She will predominantly be working across emirateswoman.com, Emirates Woman Mini, Emirates Woman Bride and Harvey Nichols – Dubai magazines.

Sarah Garden joins ShortList UAE

ShortList UAE has welcomed Sarah Garden as Digital Editor. Sarah will bring with her extensive editorial experience, both online and in print, as well a first-class honours degree in Journalism from Napier University in the UK. Prior to moving to ShortList, she worked at Motivate Publishing as a Features Editor for magazines including Emirates Woman, Emirates Bride and Harvey Nichols.

In her new role, Sarah will be editing ShortList’s soon-to-be-launched UAE websites, shortlistdubai.com and shortlistabudhabi.comShortList UAE will be published by Arab Publishing Partners and will differ from its UK counterpart as it will be aimed at both men and women, covering a variety of subjects including new restaurants and bars, events and attractions, and shopping and style.

Chethan Gowda joins Motivate Publishing

Motivate Publishing has welcomed Chethan Gowda as a Web Trafficker. Having worked in media in Mumbai and Dubai for the past three years, Chethan’s most recent role was as Media Trafficker, Ad Operation Specialist and Campaign Manager at AdinTop, Dubai.

In his new role, Chethan will work closely with sales, marketing and editorial staff to provide support for advertising campaigns across the Motivate website network, email database and digital editions. Chethan, a graduate in Computer Science and Engineering, will also bring his online media expertise to help optimise the presence of Motivate’s digital properties online.
