New bi-monthly magazine for Al Ghurair Centre

Newly renovated shopping complex Al Ghurair Centre, Deira, has launch a new bi-monthly magazine, Al Ghurair Centre Magazine. Targeted at community shoppers, art and culture lovers, foodies and those who appreciate design, the title will have a print run of 10,000 and will cover art, culture, food and retail.

“We are delighted to work with Al Ghurair Centre to try to do something that is different to the conventional mall magazine, as Al Ghurair Centre is definitely not a conventional mall. There are a lot of interesting stories within the mall and in the mp3 dinle surrounding area and we love the fact that Dubai’s original mall has an original mall magazine.”

Jashanmal Books launches quarterly magazine

Jashanmal Books has launched a new quarterly magazine, Jashanmal Quarterly. The A5 size publication is edited by ex-Open Skies Editor Conor Purcell.

“The size, the design and the content all reflect a love of the printed page, something that Jashanmal has supported for decades. We believe this shows what is possible with a custom publication, and that regional print titles can be surprising and innovative,” says Conor.

According to Narain Jashanmal, General Manager – NPP, Books & OCS, Jashanmal Group, “It’s an object that demands to be in print – from the choice of paper to the five-colour printing. We sell books after all and we anticipate that people who love books will appreciate JQ (as we’re affectionately referring to it).”

The second issue will be out early next year and be devoted to art. The first issue is available at all Jashanmal Books stores as well as a number of cafes across Dubai.

New Editor of Open Skies announced

Gareth Rees has taken over as Editor of Emirates Airline’s inflight magazine, Open Skies, published by Motivate Publishing. Previously Food Editor of What’s On magazine, Gareth was promoted to Deputy Editor of the multi award-winning monthly title in January 2012, and now replaces former editor, Conor Purcell.

“As anybody who has picked up a copy on an Emirates flight will know, Open Skies is not your typical inflight magazine,” says Gareth. “I worked with my predecessor, Conor Purcell, for 18 months, commissioning some of the industry’s most talented writers, designers, illustrators and photographers, and I will continue to work with the team to challenge perceptions of what an inflight magazine is and can be, whilst putting my own stamp on a title that has already won numerous awards. I hope to win more.”
