Jennifer Gibson goes freelance

Jennifer Gibson, former Editor of good magazine, part of Motivate Publishing has gone freelance. Having joined Motivate in 2016, Jennifer has over 15 years of experience in journalism and has worked on as well as contributed to a number of titles including VIVA, Hello! Middle East, What’s On Dubai, Emirates Man, Emirates Woman, Jumeirah, The National, The Telegraph and Gulf News. She also worked in broadcasting as News Presenter and Commentator on Dubai 92 as well as Dubai Eye. Following her relocation to the UK, she will continue to work across publications in the UAE and UK as a freelance Editor.

“It has been an honour to edit good magazine since August 2016, to work with an incredible team of brilliant people and to meet so many of the innovators, entrepreneurs, environmental activists and charity campaigners who are doing so much to take community life here in Dubai forward,” says Jennifer. “The time has come for us to make a move to be closer to our families, but I look forward to continuing to work with so many of the brilliant editors and journalists I’ve met during my time here – and to the opportunities my continuing work here will allow for lots of visits to escape the Scottish weather!”

Alexandra Venison joins Vogue Arabia

Following the appointment of Manuel Arnaut as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Arabia, the title has welcomed Alexandra Venison to the editorial team as Beauty Editor. Having worked across fashion and beauty titles including Emirates Woman at Motivate Publishing and VIVA and Harper’s Bazaar Arabia at ITP Media Group, Alexandra will head up all beauty content in her new role.

Chee Smith launches portfolio website

Dubai-based fashion stylist, Chee Smith has launched cheesmithfashionstylist.com to support her new freelance fashion styling career. With over 20 years of experience in the beauty and fashion industry, Chee previously worked with VIVA magazine and most recently with Cosmopolitan Middle East as Fashion and Beauty Director. Her new website will feature her styling work across the categories of fashion, beauty, celebrities and still-life shoots to showcase her work to potential clients in the Middle East and across the World.

“I’m super excited to finally launch my website and have a digital platform where I can showcase my work both here in the Middle East and to the rest of the world,” says Chee.

Harper’s Bazaar makes new appointments

Monthly fashion and lifestyle title, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, falling under the umbrella of ITP Publishing Group, has welcomed Alexandra Venison and Gina Tadros to its team.

Previously Fashion & Beauty Director at Viva, ITP Publishing Group has promoted Alexandra Venison to the role of Digital Editor at Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. In her new role, Alexandra will be primarily responsible for fashion, beauty and celebrity digital content for the title. Gina Tadros, former Editor-in-Chief at Hello! Arabia, has been appointed as Editor of the title’s Arabic website, which is due to launch in 2017. Gina will oversee all content creation for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia‘s new digital platform.

Further media closures across the UAE

Following the recent announcement that local newspaper 7days will cease operations this month, more print titles have declared closure by the end of 2016. Falling under the umbrella of the ITP Publishing Group, homegrown women’s monthly, Viva will discontinue operations after more than 11 years in publication, with their final issue on news stands now. In addition, Arab Publishing Partners’ quarterly titles Hello! Arabia and Hello! Indo Arabia have ceased publishing.

VIVA magazine launches new website

VIVA magazine, part of ITP Publishing Group, has launched vivabeauty.me. Providing readers with daily beauty news, the website features industry updates including make-up tips and tricks, behind the scenes sneak peeks, expert tutorials and the latest beauty items of the season.

“The recently launched website is an extension of the much loved VIVA brand and is just another way to offer readers more of what they love in an instant,” says Anita Quade, Editor, VIVA magazine.

good welcomes new Editor

 good magazine, part of Motivate Publishing, has welcomed Jennifer Gibson to the role of Editor. With 13 years of experience in print and broadcast journalism, in the UK as well as in Dubai, Jennifer has previously worked at VIVA and HELLO! Middle East. Most recently she worked as a freelance writer, contributing to titles such as Good TasteWhat’s On Dubai, Cyclist Middle East, The National and Gulf News, she has also worked in broadcasting for Dubai 92 and Dubai Eye. In her new role, Jennifer will be responsible for the monthly lifestyle magazine, handling all editorial content including; writing, commissioning and editing features as well as promoting the magazine via social media and radio.

“I’m delighted to be joining Motivate as Editor of good and am looking forward to working more with the fantastic team here,” says Jennifer. “I’ve lived in Dubai for nearly five years now and have watched the city grow and evolve dramatically during that time, so I’m very excited about getting out there and seeing what’s new, exciting and homegrown in our city.”

Sara Hamdan launches holidaysinheels.com

Journalist Sara Hamdan has launched holidaysinheels.com, a luxury hotel review site with a section dedicated to packing. Sara has been writing for the New York Times from Dubai since 2010, she has previously worked for publications such as VIVA, Stylist Arabia and Dubai Magazine, she is also currently working on a part-time project with Google. Holidaysinheels.com was launched as a result of her passion for escapism and the curated styles featured on the site will be displayed in a way that allows readers to click and buy outfits directly from online stores such as net-a-porter.com. Retailer Bmore Bugatti, that stocks Tom Ford, Roberto Cavalli and other designer brands in the region, is currently sponsoring holidaysinheels.com.

“I chose to launch this site because travel, fashion and books provide the ultimate escapism for me,” says Sara. “I used to be in charge of the food and travel sections at VIVA and continued to write on these topics at Stylist Arabia and Dubai Magazine. I figured, why not write about topics I love for myself this time?”

Sara Hamdan joins Motivate Publishing

Sara Hamdan has joined Motivate Publishing as Editor of Dubai Magazine – a lifestyle quarterly, produced on behalf of Dubai Department of Tourism. Previously Deputy Editor at Viva magazine, and currently still contributor to the international New York Times in Dubai, Sara will cover the best restaurants, hotels, culture hotspots and activities Dubai has to offer.

“After over a decade of living in Dubai, I continue to be inspired every day by this dynamic city,” says Sara. “I am so excited about working with an all-star team at Dubai Tourism Dept to show tourists the best that Dubai has to offer.”

VIVA Beauty Awards 2014 winners announced

The winners of the 7th annual VIVA Beauty Awards have been announced following the ceremony which was held on Thursday May 22 at the JW Marriot Marquis Dubai. Hosted by TV presenter and entrepreneur Zahirah Variawa, this year saw 23 VIVA Beauty Awards categories presented across prestige and mass market products.

In the prestige market, the night’s highest accolades went to Chanel, a winner in two categories: Best Foundation – Chanel Perfection Lumiére Velvet Smooth-Effect Make-up, and Best Perfume – Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau De Parfum. Other winners in the Prestige market included: Best Mascara – Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara; Best Nail Varnish – Essie Nail Colour; Best Anti-Ageing Product – Clarins Double Serum; Best Hair Product – L’Oréal Professionnel Absolut Repair Masque; Best Face Moisturiser – Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF30; Best Lipstick – Christian Dior Rouge Dior, and Best Body Product – Kiehl’s Créme de Corps.

In the mass market, the awards were split into the following categories: Best Perfume – L’Occitane Magnolia & Mure; Best Mascara – Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara; Best Nail Varnish – OPI Nail Lacquer; Best Anti-Ageing Product – Pond’s Age Miracle BB + Cream; Best Hair Product – TRESemmé Salon Silk Conditioner; Best Face Moisturiser – Olay Total Effects Day Cream; Best Lipstick – Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipstick; Best Body Product – The Body Shop Shea Body Butter; Best Hair Salon – JetSet, and Best Nail Salon – N.bar.

For the Editor’s Choice Awards, Chanel took home yet another win with Chanel Allure Eau De Toilette named as the Editor’s Choice Cult Classic. In addition to this, the Editor’s Choice for Most Innovative Product went to Philips ActiveCare Jojoba Straightener, and the Editor’s Seal of Approval was awarded to Max Factor Whipped Creme Foundation.
