Turret Media welcomes Hayley Skirka

Turret Media has appointed Hayley Skirka to the role of Special Projects Editor. With a wealth of experience, Hayley previously worked with Swiss Media Group as Senior Editor of Equestrio magazine and SWR magazine and most recently worked with Hot Media as the Editor of World Traveller. In her new role, she will create editorials for all projects, while overseeing the work of in-house writers and support the editorial team at Abu Dhabi World.

 

“I’m really excited to be starting with Turret Media and ONE CMG as Special Projects Editor, a role that will let me do a little bit of everything that I love,” says Hayley. “From creating quality, community-focused editorial for Abu Dhabi World, to providing a variety of clients with tailored solutions and products that they can be proud of.”

Swiss Media Group closes

Swiss Media Group is to cease its operations, after 12 years of publishing in the UAE. Founded in 2004, Swiss Media Group was formed by an experienced publishing and editorial team from Switzerland and the UK. The group’s portfolio of magazines included Equestrio, Prestige and the recently re-vamped SWR. The publishing group has cited the evolution of the publishing world as the reason behind its closure.

“There are no words to describe the gratitude we feel towards our clients, partners and suppliers, ever single one of whom helped not only to make our journey possible, but also to make it thoroughly enjoyable,” says Michael Lahyani, Publisher and CEO, Swiss Media Group. “We look forward to seeing you again on the polo fields or at the next watch fair and for now wish you a continued success.”

Swiss Media Group welcomes new Senior Editor

Rania Habib has joined Swiss Media Group as Senior Editor. Formerly Assistant Editor at Canvas Magazine, Rania has over 10 years of experience in journalism and has most recently written for publications including Brownbook, Harper’s Bazaar Art Arabia and Selections while working freelance. As Senior Editor, she will be working on all three of Swiss Media Group’s flagship titles; Prestige, Stuff Worth Reading (SWR) and Equestrio. Rania will also be working on contract publishing projects for the company.

“This is an exciting time to join the Swiss Media Group, and I am looking forward to working on its varied portfolio of print titles, as well as their digital offerings,” says Rania.

Swiss Media Group has appointed Hayley Skirka as Senior Editor. Having worked across a number of titles in the region, Hayley previously held the role of Editor for Oasis Living Magazine in Al Ain, Contributing Writer at the International Diplomat Magazine Dubai, Editor of The Source UAE and Assistant Editor, Time Out GCC Guides and Supplements. In her most recent position, Hayley was Acting Editor at Time Out GCC Guides and Supplements, overseeing the division at ITP Publishing. As Senior Editor, Hayley will be focusing on Swiss Media Group’s growing portfolio of luxury consumer magazines.

“I’m really honoured to be working at Swiss Media – it’s a great team and the company has a fantastic portfolio of high-end titles,” says Hayley. “Although I only knew our late Editor-in-Chief Lucy for a few weeks, she was a truly inspiring woman and I’m determined, along with everyone at Swiss Media, to carry on her editorial legacy.”

Mary Keenan joins Swiss Media Group

Mary Keenan has joined the Swiss Media Group as Junior Editor. With editorial experience across a number of publishing houses in the UAE, Mary has held the position of Editorial intern at Motivate Publishing – where she contributed content in addition to researching events, news and people – before moving on to her most recent position as Fashion Intern for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. In this role, Mary worked across both Harper’s Bazaar Arabia and Harper’s Bazaar Bride.

In her new position, Mary joins the editorial team to work across Swiss Media Group’s portfolio of niche market titles including EQUESTRIO, SWR and Prestige magazine.

“It is a real privilege to be joining the fantastic team at Swiss Media Group,” says Mary. “I have been made to feel extremely welcome and I am very excited to take up the Junior Editor role and move forward with the group’s three luxury titles.”

 

Media mourn the loss of Lucy Monro

Great sadness continues to fill the hearts of many as news spreads of journalist Lucy Monro’s tragic death. The animal lover and sports enthusiast was fatally injured after colliding with motorbikes during a coast-to-coast charity cycling challenge with Team SWR this past weekend. As Swiss Media Group’s Editor-in-Chief, Lucy founded equestrian magazine, Equestrio, 11 years ago alongside business partner and close friend, Michael Lahyani.

“Her passion, kindness and relentless pursuit of excellence have left an indelible mark on our team, our products and our DNA,” read a joint statement issued by Michael Lahyani, Publisher and Founder, and Gerard Belicha, Publisher and CEO, both of Swiss Media Group. “She will be sorely missed on so many levels, first and foremost as a dear friend, and also as an outstanding Editor-in-Chief and inspirational leader. Lucy truly was an extraordinary woman; as a close friend rightly put it, “She was one of life’s special people””.

“We miss her so much and always will,” added Gerard Belicha.
