Distripress annual congress opens in Dubai

The first MENA edition of the Distripress Congress opened yesterday and will run until Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.  The congress acts as an international meeting point for everyone involved in the distribution and marketing of all press products including; newspapers, and periodicals. In opening the congress, Managing Director of Distripress, Tracy Jones welcomed the 450 member delegates from 47 countries with welcoming remarks also presented by Giselle Pettyfyer, CEO of Facon and Associates.  A panel session of speakers including; Carine Nevejans, Distripress President; Peter Newbould, International Trading Director, W H Smith; Anne-Marie Couderc, President, Presstalis and John Lafranier, CEO, Disticor; were also present to discuss and focus on the need to innovate, embrace change and move forward in the distribution industry – strategically.

APP Media Group to host Young Arab Awards

APP Media Group is set to host the first Young Arab Awards on December 6, 2016 in the UAE. The awards aims to recognise young Arabs for their outstanding achievements in a number of fields including business, science and social media. They will also announce a winner for the Young Arab of the Year Award 2016. Nominees will be shortlisted by a panel of judges, including renowned author, Caher Khazaal, former UK Ambassador to Lebanon, Tom Fletcher and CEO, OMG MENA, Elie Khouri, as well as special guest of honour, Roger Waters from Pink Floyd. Voting open for Mother, Baby & Child Awards

Voting is now open for the fifth annual Mother, Baby & Child Awards, presented by Mother, Baby & Child magazine, part of CPI Media Group. There are 31 categories open for voting this year, with 340 nominees competing for awards including; New School of the Year, Nursery of the Year and Kids Entertainment Centre of the Year. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony due to be held on December 7, 2016 at Habtoor Grand, Dubai Marina.

Nominations open for Leaders in Food & Beverages Awards

Catering News Middle East has opened nominations for the inaugural Leaders in Food & Beverages Awards. The awards will celebrate excellence and innovation in the region’s food and beverage industry across 18 categories, including nine for restaurants and nine for individuals. Winners will be announced at a ceremony which will take place on November 9, 2016 at the Westin Mina Seyahi, Dubai and will be sponsored by prominent suppliers on the market including; Horeca Trade, Ronai and Pulsar.

Voting opens for BBC Good Food ME Awards

Voting has opened for the seventh annual BBC Good Food Middle East Awards, hosted by BBC Good Food Middle East magazine, part of CPI Media Group. There are 32 awards up for grabs this year, with new categories including; Best Afternoon Tea, Best Business Lunch and Best Food Delivery App. Voting for the awards closes on October 13, 2016 and winners will be announced at a ceremony on November 7, 2016.

Forbes to host The Top Companies in the Arab World 2016

Forbes Middle East is set to host the fourth annual The Top Companies in the Arab World 2016 event, in Kuwait on Tuesday, May 31st, 2016. Attended by heads of companies who have helped to make the Middle East a major investment attraction, as well as Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs of Kuwait, the top 100 companies will be ranked based on four metrics – sales, net profits, assets and market value. The Top Companies in the Arab World will also be celebrating the successes of prominent Kuwaiti companies and leaders.

Forbes Middle East will be collaborating with partners for the event including; Stallion Group, Al Tayyar Travel Group and Alanba newspaper.

GCC Food Photography Awards gearing up for second season

After it’s successful debut in 2015, the GCC Food Photography Awards is gearing up for it’s second season in Bahrain. With support from UK-based Jamie Magazine, the official publication from celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, this year’s awards will be based around the theme of ‘celebrating good food’ and participants are invited to enter original photographs that capture different forms, styles, preparations and occasions of food. The contest is open for both professional and amateur photographers, with a special category for junior photographers under 17 years of age added to encourage young talent to participate. This year’s competition has five categories in total; Earth’s Bounty, Fabulous Fish, Market Magic, Food Portrait and Junior GCC Photographer of the Year.

The judging panel for the awards will include Chief Editor of Jamie Magazine, Andy Harris; Food Photographer David Loftus, celebrity Chefs Kunal Kapur and Yann Bernard Leiard and Dubai-based food blogger Sally Prosser. Competition entry is free, and registration opens on June 1, 2016 with the the winners to be announced at an awards ceremony in November 2016. Stylist Social Media Awards UAE winners announced

The first ever Stylist Social Media Awards UAE, presented by The Apparel Group, took place last night at the Palazzo Versace Dubai. Curated by Stylist Arabia, part of APP Media Group, the Awards recognised digital innovators in fields of fashion, beauty, food, vlogging and travel and the winners were chosen by a public vote. The event was hosted by Kuwaiti social media star and make-up artist Fouz Alfahad and notable winners included Joelle Mardinian, who won Beauty Social Media Star of the Year as well as Most Inspirational Social Media Star; Taim Al Falasi, who won Travel Social Media Star of the Year and Vlogger of the year and Natalia Shustova who won Fashion Social Media Star of the year. Nominees for awards included Aiisha Ramadan, My Custard Pie, Mona Kattan and The Mothership.
“This is the first time that the UAE’s social influencers are being properly recognised, with the winners chosen by over 11,000 members of the public who voted for their favourite social media stars,” says Sue Holt, Executive Director, APP Media Group. “The growth of social media influencers has been phenomenal across the world and these awards honour the individuals making the biggest waves in a range of sectors.”

InsideOut Awards winners revealed

UAE-based homes and interiors magazines InsideOut, part of Gulf News Publishing, revealed the winners of its second reader awards at a gala dinner held on Sunday, May 14 at the Music Hall, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. Over eight weeks, 18,421 individual reader’s votes were cast over 12 categories and winners this year included; Four Seasons Ramesh Gallery, Rattan House, Home Centre and Dubai Garden Centre. This year’s Editor’s Choice Award was presented to RAK Ceramics, in recognition of the UAE company’s successes in the region as well as on a global scale.
