Lion MEC launches

Darine Hounaine, Co-Founder of Mother, Baby and Child magazine at CPI Media, has moved on to launch Lion Media, Events and Consultancy (MEC) firm in Dubai. The firm aims to meet the needs of companies that require marketing and digital consultancy as well as events work. Lion MEC will launch its own set of events such as the International People’s Festival which will celebrate and flaunt the different cultures that the UAE has to offer in a carnival setting, as well as the Women’s Entrepreneur Awards and the Health and Wellbeing series of events.

The media arm of the firm will also be launching new publication Family Tree, targeting parents with children from 0 – 18 years of age with an initial print run of 15,000 copies distributed around supermarkets, clinics, hospitals, schools, hotels and more. The magazine will be available online and have its own app which will feature events, articles, news updates and a chat room. Family Tree will also have its own monthly network of events alongside a yearly channel of events.

CPI Media Group welcomes Kausar Syed

CPI Media Group has welcomed Kausar Syed to the role of Group Sales Director – Technology & Finance divisions. Kausar recently worked for ITP Publishing as Group Sales Manager, where she was responsible for delivering targets for six IT publications and ITP.net. She brings over seven years of media sales experience in the region to her new role at CPI Media Group.

As Group Sales Director for CPI’s Technology & Finance division, Kausar will formulate business strategies to achieve sales targets as well as build and maintain customer relationships across CPI publications such as CNME, CFO Magazine and Reseller ME with diversified marketing options covering print/online and events opportunities across the region.

Georgina Wilson-Powell to step down at CPI Media

Georgina Wilson-Powell has announced she will step down at CPI Media Group at the end of next week. Having worked at CPI Media Group as Group Editor since November 2011, launching Hospitality Business Middle East in 2012 and Lonely Planet Traveller Middle East in 2013, Georgina is giving up her newly appointed position as Group Managing Editor to travel before returning to the UK.

“It’s been a wonderful couple of years working with CPI Media Group launching some really dynamic and different titles to the market,” says Georgina. “I’m very proud of all I’ve achieved with the company but after six years in Dubai it’s time to slowly make my way back to the UK.”

Georgina will be available for freelance work on print and digital titles, with a focus on travel and lifestyle.

BBC Good Food winners announced

The fourth annual BBC Good Food Middle East Awards took place on Wednesday evening at The Address, Dubai Marina. New category winners included Best New Restaurant, Doha, which was awarded to Market by Jean Georges, W Doha Hotel & Residences, Best Seafood Restaurant, which went to Bice Mare, and Best Experiential Dining, which was awarded to The Act Dubai.

“This year’s awards were a resounding success, with everyone who attended – not just the winners – having had a great time,” says Sudeshna Ghosh, Editor of BBC Good Food Middle East magazine. “The results were a mix of some surprise winners as well as some long-time favourites coming out on top.”

Lonely Planet Traveller Middle East and BBC Good Food Middle East have moved to new offices. The entire editorial, sales, marketing and events teams have shifted to CPI Media Group’s headquarters in TECOM.
