Sam Kiley joins CNN

CNN Abu Dhabi has welcomed Sam Kiley to the role of Senior International Correspondent. Sam previously worked with BBC, FRONTLINE – part of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and most recently Sky News. In his new role, he will join the international news team and report to the news desk with breaking news from across the region.

“CNN is the world’s most watched news network with an unmatched presence on every major global story,” says Sam. “I have grown up as a journalist alongside CNN teams from Somalia to Sarajevo and Mosul. I have always admired them and am proud to be joining my friends at the network at this exciting and unpredictable, time.”

FIPP appoints new President and CEO

FIPP has appointed James Hewes to the role of President and CEO starting September, 2017. James previously worked in the UK with BBC Worldwide’s Haymarket Exhibitions as Director and The Art Newspaper as Interim CEO. He later moved to the UAE and worked at Gulf News Publishing as Publishing Director, was appointed to FIPP’s Management Board as Director in 2015 and founded his own company, Soho Consultancy in 2016. In his new role, he will lead the FIPP team to ensure that they continue to deliver products and services that reflect their growth and strategic development as well as enhance the team’s ability to thrive in the changing media environment.

“I am a huge supporter of FIPP and it’s an incredible honour to be asked to lead the organisation,” says James. “FIPP’s ability to connect its members with the information networking opportunities and expertise they need are more important than ever.”

Dan Cotter joins MCG Associates

Digital and creative recruitment agency, MCG Associates has welcomed Dan Cotter to the role of Associate Director. With a diverse experience in the media and public relations industry, Dan previously worked with Sky Sports as Producer, at BBC as a Journalist and most recently with TOH PR as Group Account Director. In his new role, he will look after the public relations desk specialising in the recruitment of agency and client-side communication professionals.

CNN welcomes Inga Thordar

Inga Thordar has joined CNN as Editorial and Programming Director, Digital International, where she will be overseeing the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) based digital news and sports team. She joins CNN from the BBC, where she worked as Senior Editor, leading a number of editorial teams. Inga will be based in the network’s London bureau and will oversee all digital news and sports output. She will also manage, coordinate and communicate the content flow of all other digital units, including CNN’s Hong Kong team, and will report to Andrew Demaria, Vice President and Managing Editor, CNN Digital International.

“Inga has deep experience in setting and driving an editorial agenda,” says Andrew. “She understands both journalists and technical staff, and has delivered some outstanding multi-media original and distinctive journalism. She’ll be a fantastic asset to the news team across our platforms.”

Inga adds “CNN is doing exciting things in digital journalism and building on the very latest trends in digital media, so this is a great time to be joining the international team. I’m looking forward to continuing and progressing the work on innovative storytelling and multi-platform production that’s well underway here.”
